The Birthday Child

Everything's been different
All the day long,
Lovely things have happened,
Nothing has gone wrong.

Nobody has scolded me,
Everyone has smiled.
Isn't it delicious
To be a birthday child?

We happily celebrate each child's birthday. If your child's birthday falls on a weekend or holiday, feel free to select either the Friday before or the Monday after his/her actual birthday. Children with summer birthdays are welcome to celebrate their "Half Birthday" or other chosen date. (For example, a July 17th birthday could be celebrated on January 17th.) Some students choose to bring a special snack for the class on their birthday, although they are not required to do so. Please let me know of your plans a few days prior, so other activities are not planned during this time.

A new school policy requests that you not send cupcakes for the class to school to celebrate your child's birthday. There are new state nutritional guidelines that the school must adhere to requiring that students be provided a healthy snack choice. If you want to send a cupcake with your child for him/her to eat for snack, that is your own prerogative, but I am not allowed to distribute cupcakes or other sweets to the other students. For ideas for a fun and healthy snack treat for your child to share on his/ her birthday, visit the snack page on this web site.

Some Other Activities to Celebrate at School

You could select a favorite book to donate to the classroom library in honor of your child. The birthday book could be gift-wrapped so your child could unwrap it in front of the class.

Mom, Dad or a grandparent (or any other person who is important to your child) may make arrangements with me to come and read a special story or book to the class or make a craft.

Someone special like Mom or Dad could come and eat lunch with the birthday child.

Bring a small treat for each student in the class. It needs to be something simple and easy to pass out, like party favors such as ink stampers or bubbles.

Please do not distribute invitations at school for a party outside of school unless all the children in class are invited. Students who are excluded may get their feelings hurt. Thank you for your understanding.
